YHS Athletic Update HS Students, Faculty & Coaches, We are off to a great start this winter season, I wanted to share with you some highlights from the weekend! Girls Basketball: Enjoyed their first win of the season on opening night over Kennebunk 57-25. Sean Cahill and Shannon Fallon each scored 15 points! The girls will host Falmouth on Tuesday night at 7:00, I hope to see you tomorrow night at the game! Boys Basketball: Won their home opener against Kennebunk Saturday night 90-53. David Murphy scored 36 points and Adam Labrie added 17 for the team, who looked very impressive in their regular season debut. The boys will travel to Falmouth on Tuesday night at 7:00 for what will be a fantastic match-up between playoff contenders. Girls Ice Hockey: The team has been playing for over a month and have scored plenty of goals. The team is 4-0 heading into tonight's game vs. Portland at home 5:20. Please come down to the rink to support the team you will not be disappointed. Ariel Potter was named Portland Press Hearald's player of the week last week. Katie Brown had a hat trick in the Gorham win last Saturday night. Boys Ice Hockey: Opened the season at Gorham on Saturday with a tough 5-3 loss. Walter Conrad scored one goal while Isaac Dearden had 2 on the night. The team will play Brunswick at home this Wednesday night at 7:00, please come down to the rink to support the team! Swim Team: The swim team opened at Bonny Eagle on Saturday and both the boys and the girls team won! Additionally, we had several state qualifiers at our first meet which is awesome! Brandon Felker and Abby Haley in the 200 IM Teagan Snyder and Jack Snyder in the 50 free Teagan Snyder and Ethan Nightingale in the 100 fly Brandon in the 100 breast stroke Eliza Lunt and Ethan Nightingale for the 500 The Ski Team and Indoor Track teams are practicing diligently but do not have any meets until the new year. Poetry Out Loud Dear Students, Good luck to all of you as you recite your poems this week in your English classes! Here is some information about how we are going to proceed to the next round: Six students from each grade level will advance to the run-offs. Teachers will email those students by the end of the day Friday. Run-offs will happen from 2:30 - 4:00 Monday afternoon. Based on the run-off recitations, we will choose two students from each grade level for the all-school competition which takes place 3rd period on Thursday, January 9. All the English teachers will be part of the run-off judging. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask your English teacher. Good luck to everyone and enjoy the poems this week!
One Act Auditions - Monday, 12/16 Auditions for the One Act Play, Josephine's Stories, will be on Monday December 16th in the YPAC from 6:00 - 8:30. Josephine's Stories is adapted from several of the tales from Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories. Scripts for the scenes we will read from will be available in room 409 on Wednesday, Dec. 11th. Come by and pick one up so you can prepare for the audition. You will be asked to read from the scenes and do a short improv skit. Hope to see you there!
YHS GSTA - You are invited to see "The Wise Kids" Good morning! On Saturday, December 14, there will be a community movie event at First Parish in Yarmouth sponsored by the YHS GSTA! Our GSTA have organized a showing of "The Wise Kids," a powerful, award-winning, independent, coming-of-age film. The movie will start at 7:00pm, and there will be snacks and drinks provided. Admission is free!
Poetry Out Loud results Dear Students and Faculty, The English Department is happy to share with you the results of our Poetry Out Loud Run-offs. This year, we will have two students from each grade representing their class. Congratulations to all students who successfully participated in our classroom competitions!
